Since Presidential Decree no. 189/23 of 29 September 2023, citizens of 98 countries are visa-exempt for tourism in Angola. The list includes the United States, most of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Portugal, China and Russia.
The rules in short
The exemption allows stays of up to 30 days per entry, with a limit of 90 days per calendar year. It applies strictly to tourism: the official text is explicit that holders may not work or conduct business in Angola under this exemption. For business trips, the appropriate visa is still required.
What to present on arrival
In practice, border control in Luanda asks for four things: a valid passport, an international yellow fever certificate, proof of accommodation and a return ticket. The yellow fever certificate is the item that catches most travellers off guard: without it, boarding can be denied at your departure airport.
